Abstract

Business intelligence (BI)-driven businesses have shown high performance and are considered a high priority for many companies across the globe. Unfortunately, the rate of success of BI project is very low, as per Gartner report. This suggests that existing model fails to serve the purpose, and, as reviewed from the latest available literature, there is a lack of consensus on BI success model. BI success model has been studied from technological and organisational capability perspectives. The purpose of this research is to develop an update instrument to assess how technological capability impacts success of business intelligence in an organisation. Having the right technological capabilities is important for an organisation to realise maximum benefits from its BI investment. The study presents findings drawn from the latest secondary data which was subsequently supported by primary survey conducted across industries to seek views and opinions of individuals in managerial positions and making use of BI solutions. The survey helped develop a valid and reliable instrument for further research. The findings also help clarify the definition of BI success as per the current business requirements across the globe. For BI researches it provides a knowledge base from where they can take up further empirical research for analysis, and for project managers and BI solution developers, it serves as a guide to formulate an effective and solution development strategy.
