Abstract

This article analyses the artificial intelligence systems used in the private law sector, law firms and self-employed professionals, discussing the benefits and detriments that these systems can have on the daily work of professionals and the expectations of clients. The article takes a general approach to the evolution of the private law sector and the implementation of technological systems until the arrival of artificial intelligence systems. It presents a brief overview of the artificial intelligence systems currently used by lawyers and their different uses in the legal field. Then, it presents the benefits and drawbacks observed in activities impacting professionals and clients. It is concluded that implementing artificial intelligence systems in the private legal sector is inevitable and will be part of the social evolution. However, it is essential that legal professionals, as the main actors in this transition, are instructed on how to conduct this implementation in the appropriate places and tasks ethically, respecting the fundamental rights defended in each territory and under their respective regulations.
