Abstract

Ecotourism combines the enjoyment of tourist attractions with the principles of sustainability. However, there is a lack of environmental management tools to support local communities and governments in the sustainable development of ecotourism in areas of significant natural value. The aim of this study is to propose an environmental status assessment model for managing areas of significant natural value, establishing a baseline to strengthen the development of ecotourism. The model is based on products derived from the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and spatial analysis techniques based on GIS, with indicators such as pH, EC, and temperature for the water component, and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) for the vegetation component, applied in an area with ecotourism potential in northern-central Chile. The model provided an environmental status assessment of the study area, serving as a decision-support tool for communities and local governments in the management of these areas.
