Abstract
Information security is a relevant research paper topic because of the increasing popularity of wireless local area networks that has led to a rise in threats and vulnerabilities in cybersecurity, so that the main objective of this mixed research study was to develop a cybersecurity plan through IEEE 802.1x authentication, while considering client and network certificates that protect against unauthorized access. In the development of this research, a methodology was used: a traditional bibliographic review and a systematic literature review to analyze the most specific concepts of the research. For the compilation of the scientific material, several bibliographic databases were used, such as Scopus, IEEE Xplore Digital Library, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM Digital Library), and Springer. The bibliometric analysis process was realized through VOSviewer software. VOSviewer is a software tool used for visualizing and analyzing scientific literature and other text-based data. As a general conclusion of this investigation, the most performant authentication design is determined to be through EAP-TLS certificate-based client authentication, as it offers mutual, certificate-based authentication of the client and the network.
