Abstract

In this paper, we explore the contribution of the digital innovation developed in Kenya harness the environment sustainability and economic development. Using an exploratory-case study research, the study interviewed 18 users of the digital transport innovation on its contribution to environment and economic development in Kenya. Findings points that green digital innovation improved the environment and economic development. First, the digital transport innovation improves environment through route optimisation, appropriate mode of transport, use of spare capacity and reduce dry miles. Economic improvement by empowerment of local transporters, strengthening small scale businesses and farmers and fostering financial inclusion. Practically, the paper provides an appropriate mechanism for empowerment of local transporters, small scale traders, transporters, and farmers in developing countries. Finally, the theoretical contribution of the study is providing the loop for using green digital innovation for harnessing financial inclusion in developing economies.
