Knowledge Exchange Dynamics in Circular Ecosystems: A Systematic Literature Review

Abstract

Circular ecosystems have emerged as a structure that comprises diverse actors, demonstrating superior outcomes compared to isolated companies. However, significant gaps remain in understanding the dynamics of these ecosystems, particularly concerning knowledge exchange. This study explores how knowledge is generated, shared, and applied within circular economy ecosystems, assessing their role in driving ecosystem success. A systematic literature review of empirical case studies was conducted. Our findings indicate that knowledge creation through experimentation, peer-to-peer exchange, and structured information sharing is essential for innovation, strategic decision-making, and operational resilience. Moreover, incorporating feedback mechanisms and data-driven monitoring strengthens the ecosystem’s ability to adapt to changes and overcome challenges. Overall, our findings highlight the essential role of knowledge transfer dynamics in supporting the evolution and scalability of circular ecosystems.
