Comparative Analysis of Mechanical Properties in 3D Printing Filaments Produced with Recycled PET from Plastic Bottles in Chile

Abstract

The study researches the process of manufacturing 3D printing filaments from recycled PET bottles in Chile and evaluates their mechanical properties. Bottles from Coca-Cola, Fanta, and Limón-Soda were selected, washed, dried, and cut into 7.5 mm strips before being extruded. Samples were printed with the filament and subjected to tensile testing according to ASTM D638 standard. Differences in mechanical resistance and filament quality were analysed depending on the type of bottle and content stored. The results showed variability in the quality of the material, highlighting that the Limón-Soda samples had better dimensional stability and superior mechanical resistance compared to the others. Statistical analysis was performed to assess the influence of exposure to humidity and the type of bottle on the mechanical properties, demonstrating that the choice of material significantly influences the quality of the filament obtained.
