Abstract

This conceptual study examines how metaverse technologies—such as digital twins, extended reality (XR), blockchain, and artificial intelligence (AI)—can enhance knowledge management (KM) practices within supply chains while supporting broader sustainability objectives. Drawing on a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed publications from 2021 to 2024, the paper identifies limitations in conventional KM systems, particularly in capturing tacit knowledge, enabling real-time collaboration, and supporting contextual decision-making. In response, the study proposes two interrelated conceptual frameworks: a strategic roadmap for integrating immersive KM into supply chains, and a functional design model for developing metaverse-based knowledge environments aligned with organizational needs. These technologies are also examined for their potential to improve resource efficiency, transparency, and inclusive collaboration—key dimensions of sustainable supply chain management. Finally, the paper outlines a validation plan comprising a scenario-based case study and a practitioner survey, setting the foundation for future empirical research.
