Abstract

The speedy evolution of Industry 4.0 technologies necessitates a paradigm shift in organizational strategy, workforce capabilities, and technological integration. This study presents ongoing research whose objective is to understand the key factors influencing the successful implementation and sustainability of an Industry 4.0 roadmap across diverse industrial contexts. Employing a multi-case study and longitudinal approach, qualitative data were collected from ten case studies across four countries to analyse the operationalization of a roadmapping for I4.0. The goal is to reveal assumptions for gaps in existing methodologies and propose a refined framework integrating insights from Change Management and Digital Literacy Theory. By addressing implementation challenges and optimizing strategic alignment, this research enhances roadmap effectiveness, supports digital transformation, and fosters organizational resilience. The study contributes a structured approach to navigating Industry 4.0 transitions, offering actionable insights for both academia and industry.
