Abstract

The development of complex engineering projects, particularly in the defense aerospace sector, requires a structured and methodical approach to requirements management. This study analyzes best practices in requirements management through an in-depth examination of the KC-390, a multimission military aircraft developed by Embraer. Drawing on a comprehensive literature review and a case study methodology, the research highlights the critical role of structured requirement identification and validation in minimizing engineering rework and optimizing project performance. By integrating theoretical frameworks from systems engineering and project governance, this study examines how user experience, technology roadmapping, supplier requirement reviews, and customer feedback contributed to the KC-390’s operational and commercial success. The insights gained from this research provide a framework for future large-scale defense and aerospace development projects, underscoring the importance of effective requirements management.
