Abstract

Healthcare is undergoing significant changes, and new demands are emerging. Technological advancements offer potential solutions, but changes in work practices can have impacts. A literature review used the PRISMA methodology to characterize the application areas of medical robotics technologies and identify the main challenges and opportunities for Occupational Health and Safety. The review summarized the results of 17 studies. The principal application has been in the surgery service/operating room. Da Vinci robot, robot-assisted laparoscopy, flexible ureteroscopy robotic systems, and endoscopy robotic systems are being used. Some aspects analyzed are necessary skills, cognitive workload, physical effort, performance, and teamwork. Future research must investigate the impacts of medical robotics on occupational health and safety in greater depth, combining and integrating different methodologies.
