Abstract

This chapter describes the social, economic and political influences on arts funding in the United Kingdom and the impact of government policies on, and response of, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, an increasingly important cultural player in the city since 2008 when it contributed so impressively to Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture.
