Abstract

The construction industry plays a key role in cities. It creates more space for human activities. Cities have limited land, so this is important. Builders now use advanced machinery and devices. These tools help construct and operate buildings and facilities. As a result, technical skills are becoming more important. The requirements for working in construction are rising quickly. As the industry is still substantially intensive in terms of physical labour, as well as the industry being entrenched culturally, with the master-apprentice teaching method still being the norm, the pool of candidates willing to join has been shrinking, and this is further exacerbated by the limited training and education opportunities provided for the preparation of said roles, with that further reducing the population able to join. Only few research focuses on adopting Virtual/Augmented Reality (VAR) or Mixed Reality (MR) for training, especially in construction. This review focuses on the potential of using cave automatic virtual environments (CAVEs) for interactive training tutorials in the construction industry. This paper explores the possibility of using Digital Twin (DT) to provide a high-fidelity simulation ground and utilise CAVE to provide an interaction interface for the trainee to enhance the trainees’ training efficacy and safety awareness.
