Abstract

Abstract Purpose – This study aims to investigate the impact of digital technologies on physical and mental health and their implications for organizational performance. The aim of this research paper is to analyse the dual effects of digital technologies on employee well-being and evaluate how these effects influence organizational outcomes. Design/methodology/approach – This study is based on a systematic literature review utilizing the Scopus database. The research fields include digital technologies, physical health, mental health, and organizational performance. Findings – The study reveals that while digital technologies enhance productivity, collaboration, and operational efficiency, they also contribute to challenges such as digital fatigue, musculoskeletal disorders, mental health issues (e.g., stress and burnout), and work-life imbalance. These factors significantly affect employee engagement, satisfaction, and organizational performance. Research limitations/implications – The findings are based on existing studies sourced from Scopus, focusing on broader trends rather than specific case studies. Future research could extend to include additional databases and case-specific analyses to further validate these findings. Practical implications – This paper provides actionable insights for organizations to implement health-conscious digital strategies, such as fostering work-life balance, reducing digital fatigue, and promoting ergonomic workplace practices, to sustain employee well-being and enhance organizational performance. Originality/value – The study contributes to the understanding of how digital technologies impact employee well-being and organizational performance, highlighting the need for strategic approaches to technology integration that prioritize health and productivity.
