Abstract

In Mexico and globally, digital technology plays an increasingly central role in everyday activities. Ensuring equitable access to technological opportunities is therefore essential. This study focuses on a vulnerable group: older adults. It analyzes the factors influencing technology adoption among individuals aged 60 and over, using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as the theoretical framework. A structured questionnaire was administered to a sample of 153 older adults residing in Mexico. The survey measured seven key constructs: technological anxiety, self-efficacy, social influence, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, intention to use, and actual use. Findings reveal that older adults experience high levels of technological anxiety, which hinders their perception of technology as easy to use despite recognizing its benefits. While the intention to use technology is strong, actual usage remains moderate. The results underscore the importance of promoting digital inclusion in this demographic group. Strengthening digital skills not only reduces the digital divide but also enables older adults to leverage their experience and knowledge for more meaningful participation in the digital society.
