Analysis of Recreational Systems for Cognitive Enhancement in Non-disabled Older Adults

Abstract

This article analyzes the effectiveness of recreational systems as cognitive enhancement tools in non-disabled older adults in the Presidente José Luis Tamayo parish, Salinas, Ecuador. The objective is to evaluate the benefits of a recreational program adapted to this population in extreme poverty, focused on cognitive stimulation, improvement of emotional state and promotion of socialization. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of this recreational program. An experimental design was used with 40 participants, applying assessment tools such as the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Ryff questionnaire on psychological well-being. The results showed significant improvements in cognitive skills, emotional well-being and socialization of the participants, demonstrating that recreational activities are effective in maintaining the quality of life of this population. The study shows that gaming systems not only promote cognitive stimulation, but also contribute to emotional well-being and social networks. It is advisable to personalize activities and train facilitators to maximize the effectiveness of the program. In addition, it is important to integrate recreational approaches into public policies for the care of older people and to carry out continuous evaluations to adapt to their changing needs, thus contributing to improving the quality of life and social cohesion in vulnerable communities.
