Abstract

Data journalism is gaining worldwide relevance as an essential discipline in the contemporary information age. In Mexico, although developing, it faces significant challenges. The lack of specialized training and limited access to quality data hinder its growth. To advance, a comprehensive strategy is required to address these issues, fostering collaboration among media, academic institutions, and civil society. Globally, countries like the United States, Argentina, and the United Kingdom lead the way in this practice. In Mexico, the adoption of data journalism would be crucial to strengthen accountability, promote transparency, and empower citizens in a context of democratizing information. Data journalism is expected to continue expanding, becoming an indispensable tool for telling stories in a precise and engaging manner, and it is anticipated that communication faculties will need to adapt to include this discipline in their curricula. In summary, data journalism represents the future of journalism, with the potential to transform the way information is produced and consumed.
