Digital Transformation of Higher Education in Georgia: Challenges and Opportunities

Abstract

The article analyzes the process of digital transformation of the higher education sector, studies the special role of digitization in the effective functioning of the education system and in the life of modern society. Conceptual issues of the post-industrial era of higher education are evaluated in the work. It is justified that the introduction of modern digital technologies in the higher education sector of Georgia will contribute to the modernization and development of education, as well as the improvement of the quality of preparing of future specialists and the process of bringing education closer to science. The objective of the study is to reveal the challenges of the digital transformation process in the higher education sector of Georgia and to develop recommendations for development opportunities. Analysis, comparison, factorial and other statistical methods are used in the paper, bibliographic research is conducted, quantitative research is carried out to identify the factors hindering digital transformation and to determine the expected benefits from digitization. Based on the research, the problems of digitization in the higher education system of Georgia are identified, the possibilities of improvement of the national education system using modern digital technologies are determined, the legal, political, economic and social factors of the development of the digitization process are evaluated. In accordance with the identified problems, conclusions are drawn on the processes hindering the digital transformation in the Georgian higher education system and recommendations are proposed on the future possibilities of implementing digitization.
