Abstract

Progress in health information technology has created a huge investment in this field and inventors have funded a lot of startups in this field. However, there is no model to measure the strategic performance of health IT startups to consider unique characteristics of e-health market. This study proposed and tested a hybrid model of strategic performance evaluation to examine the factors that result in financial success and consequently survival of e-health startups. This paper conducts a quantitative research based on the data collected from French Tech of Montpellier Metropole, which contain an annual directory of companies active in the health IT field in France. We test our hypotheses using data of e-health startups during the 9-month period between September 2020 and June 2021. His research proposes a comprehensive model of strategic performance evaluation tool, which is of considerable value for e-health entrepreneurs because it is adaptable to specific context of e-health, in which prescribers are the final targets and niche calibration is the greatest determinant of success. We found that system quality signifying the facility and ease of use of e-health products and service plays a significant role in the adoption of prescribers leading to higher performance. Qualification and skills of founders and employees of e-health startups and also efforts and investments on their training determine their capacity to be innovative and develop patents and this will consequently influence performance of the e-health startup.
