Abstract

While there is ample evidence of tools for measuring tourism impacts in tourism destinations (resorts, attractions), there is little available for non-touristic areas. Aiming to explore the suitability of existing tools for evaluating tourism impacts on non-tourism areas, the proposed study uses a literature review on the topic to establish a more complete understanding of the issue at hand. The proposed study uses the case of Deree-The American College of Greece, which has a strong study abroad program, bringing students from mostly USA universities for one or two semesters to study at Deree, a 4-year college situated in Aghia Paraskevi, which is a residential suburb northeast of the city of Athens. The findings could be helpful to similar areas receiving exchange students from European universities through Erasmus programs or from American universities through study abroad programs.
