Abstract
The impact of classical music festivals on international tourism can be significant, and the “George Enescu” Festival in Bucharest, Romania, is a relevant case study in this regard. This Music Festival is one of the most important cultural events in Romania and Europe, attracting a significant number of international tourists with each edition. It provides a platform for world-renowned artists and outstanding performances of classical music, contributing to the promotion and appreciation of the work of the Romanian composers. The “George Enescu” Festival captivates visitors coming from diverse corners of the globe, all eager to immerse themselves in the enchanting concerts and exclusive events meticulously orchestrated during the festival. The number of tourists notably bolsters the influx of visitors in Romania, throughout the festival’s duration. These types of events serve as a pivotal opportunity to showcase the cities as a vibrant hub of cultural significance within Europe, thus amplifying their presence on the global cultural map. In economic terms, the festivals wield considerable influence, fostering a palpable economic uplift within the cities and their surrounding regions. Tourists who converge to the festival inject substantial capital into the local economy by financially supporting hotels, restaurants, shops, and various other establishments, thereby fostering robust economic growth and development within the community. The festivals also encourage exploration of the country’s diverse cultural and historical treasures, beyond the realms of musical performance, serving as a dynamic platform for cultural exchange, fostering dialogue and interaction between artists, the public, and both the local and international communities. This vibrant exchange of cultural perspectives not only enriches the tourist experience but also serves as a catalyst for promoting cultural diversity and understanding among different communities. This study will pivot towards analyzing statistical data concerning the festival’s audience dynamics over the past few years. Through empirical evidence and insightful analysis, we will shed light on the festival’s role in attracting visitors, boosting economic activity, and promoting cultural exchange.
