Abstract

Environmental awareness and growing worries about climate change, natural environment deterioration, and natural resource depletion have resulted in worldwide trends and push for a greener, more sustainable environment. Green supply chain management (GSCM) refers to the incorporation of environmental considerations and concerns into supply chain management (SCM). The construction sector is one of the most harmful to the environment, since it is responsible for massive quantities of natural resource depletion, CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and solid waste around the world. The sector’s complexity and size, together with a diverse set of participants and stakeholders and its considerable representation in the Greek economy, make it one of the country’s most important economic sectors. This paper aims to investigate the major GSCM practices used by large Greek construction companies, as well as the fundamental factors that enable them, the major barriers that they face, and the metrics that quantify their influence on performance. The findings are derived from a questionnaire-based survey addressed to key GSCM-related staff of eligible Greek construction companies.
