Abstract

Over the years, glasses have become very popular, and since they are a permanent used product, many issues concerning frames have been present. Because of size and weight under which they are manufactured, pain and pressure marks over face areas and the head (nasal bone, temporal bone, temple, and nape) are shown. In this paper, it is proposed an improvement in frames by taking advantage of the technological advances. The study has in focus the students from the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Engineering at the Technical University of Cotopaxi-Ecuador that require the use of glasses due to different types of vision problems. Our work aims: to identify the need for improvement on glasses frames by exploring most common problems; to address these issues by giving a specific solution—new frame model based on 3D scanning; and to compare the existing data with the new data generated through informatics tools. Our findings appear to support well the general problem, and we believe that we have designed an innovative solution to the commercial frames.
