Japanese Direct Investment in the USA: Direct Investment, Hollowing-Out and Deindustrialization

In: Economic, Industrial and Managerial Coordination between Japan and the USA

Author

  • Kiyoshi Abe

Abstract

During the postwar period, the student (Japan) learned a great deal from its teacher (the USA). Now, just as a disciple resembles a master, Japan resembles the USA. The two share much in common and are increasingly interdependent. Their interdependence is the framework for this comparative analysis of foreign direct investment (FDI), hollowing-out and deindustrialization.
