Abstract

Technology may be transferred in a wide variety of forms and through many different channels. This chapter is concerned with one category of technology transfer — the acquisition of foreign technology for use in the industrial manufacturing sector. This includes, for example, imports of capital goods, technical services and production know-how to industry for more or less immediate use in production activities. The chapter will focus on developing countries and draw specifically on the experience of Thailand. However, the issues to be raised may have relevance outside these bounds.
