Abstract

Professor Lindahl, as President of the International Economic Association, introduced the topic of the Round Table. He said that inflation was very much a political question because it was easier to put economic policies into effect with the help of a little inflation. Politicians were happy to have the support of economists for this kind of policy, but the economists themselves had different views on it. Professor Lindahl hoped that the discussion in this Round Table meeting would help to clear our ideas and enable us all to express our thoughts on inflation more clearly. Perhaps in the longer run by helping academic economists to get their views settled it would have some impact on the politicians too.
