Análisis de Huella Hídrica de la Producción de Prendas de Algodón, desde Tepeji del Río Hidalgo. Una Transformación Ineludible hacia la Sustentabilidad

Abstract

En el mundo, la producción anual de algodón emplea 222 mil millones de metros cúbicos de agua y contamina 50 mil millones de metros cúbicos (Vázquez del Mercado, 2019.) En México, en el estado de Hidalgo, uno de los principales sectores productivos es la industria textil, que alberga cerca de 20,000 empresas, de las cuales 90% son pequeñas y medianas (Pymes), responsables de alrededor de un millón de empleos directos e indirectos (Gobierno Fácil 2014-2019), el sector generó 6,265.5 millones de dólares (USD) y conforme a los censos económicos de 2019, contribuyó con el 0.7% de la producción del PIB nacional (Plan Estatal de Desarrollo 2016-2022). Se indaga sobre las herramientas con las que se cuenta para determinar la huella hídrica sus fundamentos y se vivió la experiencia de aplicación para una empresa textil en Tepeji del Río. Encontrando que la empresa fabrica una prenda de 580g con una huella de agua de 11.64 litros para su cálculo se adaptó la metodología propuesta por Wáter Footprint Network (2009.. Se concluyó que existe la necesidad de diseñar una calculadora que tome en cuenta: el factor de escasez del agua, hábitos de consumo y el efecto de factores climáticos locales como periodos de sequía.
