Abstract

This paper presents an empirical study exploring the effect of globalization on the rate and type of entrepreneurial activity in Europe. It builds upon a theoretical framework which examines the level of entrepreneurship by distinguishing demand from supply factors in the presence of government involvement. The findings suggest that differences in globalization are associated with variance in both the rate and type of entrepreneurial activity, and that globalization has a negative effect on entrepreneurship. The study also contributes to the continuing debate on the effect of regulations on the level of entrepreneurial activity.
