Abstract

ASD is a developmental disability that appears early in a child’s life. It is characterized by the presence of difficulties in two areas: - social communication and social interaction and - behaviour - repetitive behaviors or fixated interests. (for details see Frame 1) The combination of strengths and difficulties is unique for every child with ASD. There is a famous sentence „When you meet one person with autism, you met one person with autism“ that describes the diversity of needs and challenges of persons with ASD. Some people can have a lot of difficulties in everyday challenges and some have less. That can change during the lifespan, but also can vary depending on the specific situation or setting (in school, at home, in the supermarket).
