Abstract

The protection of nature is often focused upon preserving wildlife biodiversity, but the major prerequisite is to maintain relatively unchanged abiotic conditions of habitats, especially to preserve water. Special Nature Reserve "Carska bara" is on the UNESCO list of the internationally significant swamp areas and an important Ramsar site. The aim of this study was to obtain the preliminary results of the anthropogenic influence on water quality. The water blooms of cyanobacteria and their cyanotoxins are common in the majority of surface waters in Serbia so the determination of microcystin-LR, WR, LA, LY, LW and LF by the liquid chromatography electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry method in the multiple reaction monitoring mode for the determination of microcystins was done. The same method was used for the detection of 66 pesticide residues in water. Additionally, study included water quality parameters: pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, as well as cladocerans' species diversity and abundance, as the indicators of the water quality.
