Abstract

This chapter explores the evolution of digital asset fundraising, with a focus on Security Token Offerings (STOs) and Initial Exchange Offerings (IEOs) as significant successors to Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs). STOs have emerged as a regulated and compliant alternative to ICOs, while IEOs, initiated by cryptocurrency exchanges, provide added credibility and liquidity to investors. We discuss the mechanisms, pros and cons of STOs and IEOs, delve into notable examples, and assess the regulatory environment surrounding these innovations. Through this analysis, we seek to offer a comprehensive understanding of these emerging fundraising methods and their implications for the future of digital asset financing.
