Abstract

This chapter analyses the evolution of ECSC and then EU steel policy from the signing of the Treaty of Paris (1951) to the present day. It examines the main decisions taken by the High Authority/ European Commission to deal with the difficulties of the sector in the face of external competition and climate change. This is followed by an analysis of the Commission's current challenges to ensure the survival and competitiveness of the sector.
