Detection of misconduct and crime

Abstract

Detection of white-collar crime is dependent on a number of factors as discussed in this chapter. Detection is not a simple phenomenon in the sense of whether crime has occurred or not occurred, and the criminal act is detected or not detected. Rather, detection is concerned with the extent of accuracy in noticing fake or genuine deviant acts. It is a matter of social psychology, where accuracy of detection is influenced by interactions between the observer and the observed as well as the ability of recognition.
