Abstract

This chapter aims at providing a comprehensive view on the cultural heritage–creativity–development linkage. The final conceptual step leading from cultural heritage to economic development through the mediating effect of creativity is explained. Through its inspirational role, cultural heritage positively affects artistic and scientific creative talents and through this mechanism reinforces the impact of creativity on regional development. The function of creativity as a catalyser between cultural heritage and local performance is thoroughly discussed and the entire reasoning is econometrically put together through a structural equation model (SEM) that shows the mediating role of creativity. The results show that, through its positive impact on artistic and scientific creative talents, cultural heritage exerts an indirect positive effect on economic development.
