"The Future of Democracy?": 1st Annual Interdisciplinary WZB Conference

Abstract

120 Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler, mehr als 70 Präsentationen, 3 Keynotes und 2 Paneldiskussionen im Plenum: Die Dimensionen waren groß, und ebenso groß war die zentrale Frage, die der Ersten Interdisziplinären WZB-Jahreskonferenz zugrunde lag: Welche Zukunft hat die Demokratie? Die Konferenz, angeregt von WZB-Präsidentin Nicola Fuchs-Schündeln und von ihr gemeinsam mit den Abteilungsdirektoren Daniel Ziblatt und Michael Zürn geplant, stand ganz in der Tradition der problemorientierten Grundlagenforschung. Es ging nicht nur um eine Analyse des Zustands heutiger Demokratien, sondern immer auch um die Suche nach Handlungsmöglichkeiten. Wie lassen sich Demokratien stärken? Welche Hebel können genutzt werden, um ihre Widerstandskraft zu erhöhen und langfristig Stabilität zu gewährleisten?
