Populismus in Europa: Einblicke in die komplexen Mechanismen der Demokratie

Abstract

Folgt man der öffentlichen Diskussion, so scheint die Demokratie als politische Ordnungsform in Gefahr. Ergebnisse des European Social Survey aus den Jahren 2012 und 2020/22 sprechen eine andere Sprache – sie verweisen auf eine hohe Stabilität der Legitimität der Demokratie. Eine hohe Nachfrage nach populistischen Vorstellungen scheint nicht von vornherein ein Problem für die Demokratie zu sein. Bernhard Weßels eruiert, unter welchen Bedingungen es gefährlich wird.
