Abstract

Der Friedensnobelpreis 2021 ging an die philippinische Journalistin Maria Ressa und ihren russischen Kollegen Dmitrij Muratow. In Zeiten, in denen Journalistinnen und Journalisten wie diese um ihr Leben fürchten müssen, ist die freie Meinungsäußerung weltweit eine der am stärksten bedrohten demokratischen Freiheiten geworden. Vanessa Boese-Schlosser hat untersucht, welche politischen und institutionellen Voraussetzungen die Meinungsfreiheit hat. Sie zeigt: Nicht jede Demokratie erfüllt die Kriterien.
