Armut in Europa

Abstract

In Europa weisen Schweden, Dänemark, Finnland, Luxemburg, die Niederlande und mit leichtem Abstand Österreich die niedrigsten Armutsquoten auf. Die größten Armutsprobleme haben Lettland, Griechenland, Bulgarien und Rumänien. Bei fast allen Messgrößen hängen Armutsbetroffenheit und Einkommenshöhe eng zusammen. Alle Armutsindikatoren identifizieren Alleinstehende, Personen mit Migrationshintergrund und vor allem Alleinerziehende und Arbeitslose als besondere Problemgruppen. Bei der Betrachtung von konsistenter Armut oder materieller Entbehrung wird die Relevanz des Arbeitsmarktes noch wesentlich deutlicher. Deutschland belegt auf Basis verschiedener Armutskriterien eine Platzierung im vorderen Mittelfeld. Nur bei der sogenannten konsistenten Armut schneidet Deutschland schlechter ab als der Durchschnitt der EU-15.
