Heimischer Tourismus zieht immer mehr Gäste an

Abstract

Im Jahr 2024 hat der weltweite Tourismus den Einbruch infolge der COVID-19-Pandemie endgültig überwunden: Mit etwa 1,5 Mrd. internationalen Ankünften (+12,4% gegenüber 2023) wurde das Niveau von 2019 wieder erreicht. Auch in Österreich lagen 2024 sowohl die Ankünfte als auch die Nächtigungen erstmals wieder leicht über dem Niveau vor Ausbruch der Pandemie (jeweils +1,1%). Die mittlere Aufenthaltsdauer pro Unterkunft kehrte mit 3,3 Nächten zum Vorkrisenwert zurück, nachdem sie 2020/2023 entgegen dem langjährigen Trend zugenommen hatte. Mit Abschluss des Aufholprozesses traten regional deutliche Unterschiede zutage: Wien fungierte mit einem Nächtigungszuwachs von 9,3% erneut als Wachstumsmotor, während Kärnten und Niederösterreich leichte Rückgänge verzeichneten und Salzburg stagnierte. Die Erholung verlief auch saisonal in ungleichem Tempo und war im Sommer deutlich dynamischer (Sommer 2024 +3,3% gegenüber 2019, vorläufiger Sommer 2025 +2,2% gegenüber dem Vorjahr), während das Nächtigungsniveau in der Wintersaison 2024/25 noch leicht unter jenem des Winters 2018/19 lag (–0,7%). Für das Gesamtjahr 2025 erwartet das WIFO einen neuerlichen Nächtigungszuwachs, aber eine Verlangsamung des Wachstums.
