Österreichs Direktinvestitionen in Mittel- und Osteuropa

Abstract

Wie kein anderes Land ist Österreich schon seit Anfang der 1990er-Jahre mit umfangreichen Investitionen in Mittel- und Osteuropa (MOEL 20) vertreten – bis etwa 2000 vor allem auf den nahegelegenen Märkten, seither auch in den anderen Ländern der Region. Die Rentabilität der Investitionen war bisher außerordentlich gut. Eine wichtige Rolle spielen die Ostbeteiligungen des österreichischen Finanzsektors. Für Unternehmen sind Direktinvestitionen ein wichtiges Instrument zur Erschließung und Sicherung neuer Märkte, aber auch zur Nutzung niedriger Produktionskosten im Ausland und zur Verbesserung der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit. Befürchtungen, mit einer Produktionsverlagerung würde eine Verringerung der Beschäftigung in den heimischen Mutterunternehmen einhergehen, bestätigen sich nicht.
