Der Verbraucherpreisindex als Deflationsindikator

Abstract

Das Sinken der Preise in einigen asiatischen Ländern sowie das Stocken des Wirtschaftswachstums in den Industrieländern lösten eine Diskussion darüber aus, ob auch in den Industrieländern eine Deflation drohe. In der öffentlichen Diskussion wird Deflation üblicherweise als Verfall der Verbraucherpreise definiert. Der vorliegende Beitrag geht der Frage nach, wieweit der Verbraucherpreisindex, dessen Aufgabe es ist, Veränderungen des Lebensstandards zu messen, ein geeigneter Indikator für gesamtwirtschaftliche Nachfrageschocks sein kann.
