Erste Hinweise auf eine Konjunkturerholung

Abstract

Der WIFO-Konjunkturtest für das I. Quartal 2002 zeigt in der Sachgütererzeugung erstmals seit dem Frühjahr 2000 eine leichte Aufhellung des Geschäftsklimas gegenüber dem Vorquartal. Dies deckt sich mit der Verbesserung der Stimmungsindikatoren in den USA und in Europa. Konkrete Zahlen für Produktion und Großhandelsumsätze reichen jedoch nur bis Herbst des vergangenen Jahres und zeigen ein deutliches Minus, das Wachstum des Exports hat sich merklich verlangsamt. Auch die Lage auf dem Arbeitsmarkt ist von der Konjunkturschwäche gekennzeichnet: Die Zahl der unselbständig Beschäftigten ging im Jänner merklich zurück, die Arbeitslosigkeit liegt markant über dem Vorjahresniveau. Die Binnennachfrage entwickelte sich zuletzt sehr verhalten. Die Umsätze im Einzelhandel wuchsen real nur leicht, die Bauwirtschaft befindet sich weiterhin in der Rezession. Hingegen verzeichnete der Tourismus einen erfolgreichen Beginn der Wintersaison.
