Wachstumseinbruch in den USA trübt nun heimische Konjunktur

Abstract

Die österreichische Konjunktur war in der zweiten Jahreshälfte 2000 von einer ausgezeichneten Exportnachfrage und Industrieproduktion, hingegen von einer Stagnation der verfügbaren Einkommen und schwachen Einzelhandelsumsätzen geprägt. Ausgehend vom markanten Wachstumseinbruch in den USA verschlechtert sich nun die Stimmung in den EU-Unternehmerbefragungen. Vor allem in der deutschen Industrie war die Beurteilung von Auftragseingängen, Produktion und Geschäftsklima zuletzt merklich gedämpft. Der WIFO-Konjunkturtest für das I. Quartal 2001 zeigt in der Sachgütererzeugung eine pessimistischere Einschätzung von aktueller Geschäftslage und Kapazitätsauslastung, die Produktionserwartungen haben sich allerdings bislang nicht verschlechtert. Auf Verbraucherebene beginnt sich der Preisauftrieb mit dem Einsetzen einer Entspannung im Bereich der Energiekosten abzuschwächen. Das Beschäftigungswachstum hat sich im Vergleich zum 1. Halbjahr 2000 halbiert.
