Wachstumsabschwächung in Österreich seit dem Sommer 1998

Abstract

Mit einer Rate von +3,3% verzeichnete Österreichs Wirtschaft 1998 ein kräftiges Wachstum. Aufgrund der regen Auslandsnachfrage stieg das reale BIP im 1. Halbjahr besonders deutlich. Im Sommer hatte die internationale Finanzkrise jedoch eine Abschwächung der Exportdynamik zur Folge. Zwar beschleunigte sich die Zunahme des Konsums der privaten Haushalte im Jahresverlauf, doch glich dies die Exportschwäche nur teilweise aus, das Wirtschaftswachstum wurde im 2. Halbjahr gedämpft. Die gute Konjunktur ließ auch die Beschäftigung expandieren. Aufgrund des großen Arbeitskräfteangebotes stieg die Arbeitslosigkeit trotzdem leicht. Der allgemeine Preisauftrieb verlangsamte sich 1998 weiter, die Inflationsrate erreichte mit 0,9% den niedrigsten Stand seit 43 Jahren.
