Außenhandel der EU merklich gebremst, zunehmende Impulse von der Binnennachfrage. Wirtschaftstendenzen in der EU 1998

Abstract

Die Konjunktur erreichte in der EU im 1. Halbjahr 1998 ihren Höhepunkt. Ab dem Sommer verschlechterte sich das Wirtschaftsklima allerdings aufgrund der anhaltenden Wirkungen der Wirtschaftskrise in Asien und des Ausbruchs der Finanzkrise in Rußland. Der Export verlor im Laufe des Jahres merklich an Dynamik, das Handelsbilanzaktivum der EU verringerte sich etwas. In der Folge schwächten sich auch das Wachstum der Industrieproduktion und das Investorenvertrauen ab. Aufgrund steigender Beschäftigung, höherer Lohnabschlüsse, weniger restriktiver Budgetpolitik und schwachen Preisauftriebs verbesserten sich die real verfügbaren Einkommen deutlich, der private Konsum wurde zum wichtigsten Konjunkturmotor. Im Jahresdurchschnitt wuchs die europäische Wirtschaft real um 2,8% – die höchste Rate seit 1994.
