Dämpfung des Wirtschaftswachstums. Prognose für 1999 und 2000

Abstract

Für die österreichische Wirtschaft war 1998 trotz ungünstiger weltwirtschaftlicher Rahmenbedingungen ein erfolgreiches Jahr. Die Wachstumsrate des Bruttoinlandsproduktes lag mit 3,3% deutlich über dem EU-Durchschnitt. Im Herbst zeichnete sich jedoch eine Konjunktureintrübung ab, die von Krisen in Asien, Rußland und Lateinamerika sowie den Turbulenzen auf den internationalen Finanzmärkten ihren Ausgang nahm. Für 1999 kann deshalb in Österreich nur noch ein Wirtschaftswachstum von 2,4% erwartet werden. Die robuste Inlandsnachfrage mildert dabei die ungünstigen Konjunktureinflüsse aus dem Ausland. Die Dynamik wird 1999 nicht ausreichen, um die Arbeitslosenquote spürbar zu senken. Bei adäquater Reaktion der internationalen Wirtschaftspolitik dürfte die Konjunkturschwäche im Jahr 2000 überwunden werden.
