Auswirkungen der Wirtschafts- und Währungsunion auf die Inflation in Österreich

Abstract

Die Errichtung der Wirtschafts- und Währungsunion ist ein entscheidender Integrationsschritt der Europäischen Union. Die damit verbundene Einführung der gemeinsamen Währung wird die Wettbewerbseffekte verstärken, die von der Errichtung des Binnenmarktes ausgehen. Sie ist eine bedeutende Investition in die Verbesserung der Wettbewerbsposition Europas im Welthandel. Als solche verursacht sie auch hohe Kosten, die in der Anfangsphase anfallen werden. Für manche Bereiche ergeben sich aber schon kurzfristig erhebliche Kostenentlastungen. Dies betrifft den Wegfall der Devisenmanagementkosten innerhalb der EU. Bei vollständiger Weitergabe der Kostenbe- bzw. -entlastungen zwischen den Wirtschaftssektoren ergibt sich für die Verbraucherpreise in den nächsten zwei Jahren eine leichte Beschleunigung der Inflation um jeweils 0,1 Prozentpunkt; in den folgenden Jahren setzen sich die Entlastungswirkungen durch, und der Preisauftrieb verlangsamt sich um jeweils ¼ Prozentpunkt pro Jahr.
