Abstract

Der Warenexport bildet nach wie vor den Konjunkturmotor, er profitiert von steigender Nachfrage in Westeuropa und verbesserter preisbestimmter Wettbewerbsfähigkeit. Der WIFO-Konjunkturtest für das IV. Quartal 1997 zeigt eine weitere Belebung der exportgetragenen Industriekonjunktur. Deren Dynamik verlagert sich zunehmend vom Basissektor zur technischen Verarbeitung. Die Inlandsnachfrage erholte sich hingegen aufgrund schwacher Entwicklung der verfügbaren Einkommen bislang nicht. Auf dem Arbeitsmarkt ist eine – noch verhaltene – konjunkturbedingte Erholung zu verzeichnen.
