Konjunkturaufschwung erlahmt frühzeitig. Österreichs Wirtschaft im Jahr 1995

Abstract

Nachfrage und Produktion schwächten sich im Jahresverlauf 1995 überraschend ab. Im Durchschnitt wuchs das BIP um rund 1¾%, deutlich langsamer als im Vorjahr. Trotz nachlassender Konjunktur in Westeuropa und der effektiven Höherbewertung des Schillings behielt der Warenexport viel Schwung; ungünstiger entwickelte sich der Tourismus. Im Inland ging die lange Wachstumsphase der Bauwirtschaft zu Ende, die privaten Konsumausgaben verlagerten sich stärker ins Ausland. Das Leistungsbilanzdefizit erreichte mit 47 Mrd. S einen neuen Höchstwert. Schärferer Wettbewerb auch in bisher "geschützten" Bereichen hatte Personalabbau zur Folge und ließ die Arbeitslosigkeit neuerlich steigen; andererseits trug er zu noch höherer Preisstabilität bei.
