Abstract

Vor dem EU-Beitritt zur Jahreswende 1994/95 verstärkte sich das Export- und, mehr noch, das Importwachstum. Auch abgesehen von Sondereffekten blieb die Nachfrage aus dem Ausland wie jene im Inland aufwärts gerichtet. Die Handelsbilanz verschlechterte sich deutlicher als erwartet. Obwohl Lebensmittel und andere Waren billiger wurden, gab die Inflationsrate im Jänner nicht nach. Die jüngsten Wechselkursänderungen eröffnen Chancen für höhere Preisstabilität, belasten jedoch die Exportaussichten.
